Coordination Table

An augmented furniture set that reads the nonverbal behavior of its two users. It analyzes its data in realtime, based on psychological research into posture by Dr. Kevin Shockley and nonverbal mimicry by Dr. Tanya Chartrand. At approximately 20 minute intervals, it prints out a story for its users to read. These stories show others' relationships and how they were affected by a presence or lack of cooperation, allowing the table's users to reflect and discuss how their own relationship might be similar or different. Video documents interaction, while photos show the final physical construction of the piece.

‘Seahorse’ Modular Design Set

A kit of parts for making functional and decorative forms. Rapid prototyped with a laser cutter during 48 hours to develop final design. In collaboration with Kelly McCain and Jinghang Huang. Began drawing inspiration from cicada wings and pinecones, but converged on more seahorse-like forms and behaviors.

Motion Mosaic

This project takes short clips of live motion and plays them back in a mosaic that shows various parts of the clip in realtime. Built in processing. Exhibited at Brazee Street Studio's Open Studios on October 14, 2011.

Thinking Stool

The Thinking Stool is a meditation on the value of thinking about decisions without over thinking them. The longer the user sits on the stool, the more it leans, gently placing their weight back on their feet and encouraging them to get up and do things, in stead of thinking about doing them.

Shapemaker

Shapemaker is a game-based introduction to programming designed in collaboration with graphic designer Lauren Romano. Players learn the basic concepts of programming without having to write out syntax with an interface that allows players to use cards to create simple computer graphics code. Published a paper about the interface and game design with Lindsay Grace in IEEE. See the code.

paperCup

This project is a hybrid between digital and analog. Each of the cup’s layers’ forms were generated in sequence by a program I wrote in processing. I used a laser cutter to cut the forms out of chipboard and I assembled the layers by hand.

Parachute

This plaster sculpture is an abstraction of a parachute, but contradicts a traditional parachute in that it supports itself with the thin strings.

Miami Forensics

While I was a competitor on the Miami Forensics Team, I volunteered as our resident graphic designer. I designed these banners and t shirts, along with various other artifacts, to promote the team and to build our team spirit.

conversationVisualization

This program visualizes a conversation between two people in real time. During the conversation it shows the immediate area of the visualization. Afterwards, it produces an image showing the entire conversation. Built in processing.

Tilt Lamp

This lamp is turned on and off by tilting, but that must be discovered by the user. I created this to explore different ways that people can interact with everyday objects.
